FAQ
Questions people ask
Are the results official?
No. Palier is not the exam and is not connected to the Public Service Commission. It contains no real test questions. It gives you an estimate with its uncertainty shown, never a promised result.
Do I need an account?
No. Drills and mock exams work without one. Sync is on by default so your other devices can pick up your progress, using a random id with no name or email. You can turn it off at any time.
What is an OpenAI key?
A personal access code from your own OpenAI account. You create it at openai.com and paste it into Palier. It lets Palier ask the AI to mark your writing and talk with you, billed to your account.
What does it cost?
Practising is free: drills, review and mock exams need no key and cost nothing. The AI features (writing feedback, generated practice sets and spoken practice) cost a few cents each, billed by OpenAI to you on your own key, with no subscription to us. Spoken practice is billed by the minute, at a few cents a minute. Each feature shows its cost before it spends anything.
Where do the questions come from?
The items are written by an AI model, Claude, as original passages and questions that copy nothing. Each one is reviewed blind by separate instances of the same model and by a set of automatic checks; an item that fails is discarded. Every item shows where it came from, and reporting one takes a single tap.
Is my data private?
Palier has no server that stores your data. Your practice, API key, session audio, oral transcripts and writing submissions stay on your device. When you use an AI feature, the text or audio it needs is sent directly from your browser to OpenAI under your own key, and OpenAI’s terms and privacy policy apply to it. Palier never receives it. There are no analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. You can export or delete everything in one step.
